Cole Memorial’s Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services Department is accepting referrals for Functional Capacity Evaluations, commonly referred to as FCE.
The Rehab Services team has five therapists (physical and occupational therapists) who are specially trained and certified to complete ErgoScience FCE.
A FCE is a set of tests and observations which assess a patient’s ability to perform functional, work-related physical activities specific to their individual job. Physicians order a FCE to determine if a patient can return to a job, or a patient’s percent of disability which may be required by Workman’s Compensation. Completing a FCE allows the physician and therapist to know objectively when a patient is ready to return to his or her position, which is critical to ongoing worker wellness and workplace safety.
Based upon the findings, a physician can determine if a patient should participate in ongoing rehabilitation to gain physical, functional abilities, return to work full time, or perhaps return with restrictions in place.
Cole Memorial offers comprehensive rehabilitation services at the hospital’s Irwin Rehabilitation Center in Coudersport. Their team of professionals serves inpatients, outpatients, and home health patients by offering physical therapy, occupational therapy, hand therapy, speech therapy, cardiac rehab, diabetes education and an aquatic therapy pool. In addition, they have four convenient locations at Cole’s Emporium, Smethport, Shinglehouse and Port Allegany Community Health Centers.
